1. 명사 + 명사 형태를 복합명사라고 한다.

2. 복합명사에서의 앞의 명사는 대개 단수이다.

 

1. 복합명사

 

둘 이상의 명사가 하나의 읨를 나타낼 때 복합 명사가 도니다. 이떄 앞의 명사는 대게 단수이다.

 

ex) Ms.Montgomery is supposed to approve every purchase of the company's office supplies(사무 용품).

몽고메리 씨는 승인을 해야한다. / 모든 회사 사무용품의 구매에 대해

ex) By developing new management approaches(경영 관리법), the company was able to improve customer satisfaction(고객 만족) considerably.

새로운 경영관리법을 개발하는 것으로 인해, 회사는 가능해진다./ 고객만족도을 상당히 향상시키는 것이

3. 복합명사의 복수형

 

복합명사가 가산명사인지 불가산명사인지는 뒤에 있는 명사의 성격에 따라 결정된다.

복합명사를 복수형으로 표현하려면 뒤에 있는 명사가 가산 명사일 경우 뒤에 명사에 -(e)s 를 붙인다.

 

ex) a research facility -> research facilities / a job opening -> job openings

 

 

** 추가 암기 사항

 

복수명사 + 명사 

복합명사에서 앞의 명사는 대부분 단수이지만 복수로 쓰는 예외도 있다.

 

ex) awards ceremony 시상식 /savings plan 예금 상품 /sales promotion 판매 촉진/ earnings growth 수익 중가
